In the next few months, WHISTLER HOUSE PUBLISHING will be releasing Novel 2 in my TRILOGY OF TREASON. For my readers who have been waiting far too long to see this book, I am beginning a series of weekly excerpts to start you reading this story that is very close to my heart. Not only does it follow up to THE CONSUMMATE TRAITOR with a plot related to those original characters, it deals with a heartless drug scandal that has already affected too many lives, both military and civilian.

Ben kneaded his thumbs into Kendra’s spine between her shoulder blades.
She groaned. “That’s the spot, Ben. That’s where it starts.”
“Do you get backaches, ma’am?”
“Not backaches, corporal. Headaches.”

Jelnic tilted his head to look at her directly and gave her a silent nod.
“Normally, I would agree with you, but it’s the smell of smoke that triggers my headaches. Oh!” she cried, as Ben’s thumb dug deeply into her flesh. “That hurts!”
He patted her shoulder. “Now your mind has something else to focus on.”
“If only you’re right.”
He smiled to give her reassurance and pulled his hand away. “Try to get more sleep.” He resettled into his seat and seconds later nodded off.
Ben was right. Sleep was what she needed. She gulped a few sips of water from the bottle, replaced the cap and burrowed down into the cushioned softness of her seat. His massage had relaxed her. As a comfortable drowsiness settled over her, the vial of Ativan still lay on her lap, unopened, a reminder.
